Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Preview & Tips
Manchester City have to win in midweek as they look to heap the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal by moving to within three points of the Gunners.
Crystal Palace were disappointing in their 2-2 draw with Everton at the weekend, although there was likely a real hangover in performance following their 2-1 Conference League win over Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.
- City have seen over 2.5 goals in their last two league games
- Palace have lost five of their last eight against City (W1, D2)
Head To Head
City have won five of their last 10 against Palace, with the latter winning twice and three games ending as draws.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City stormed to a crucial 3-0 win over Brentford in their last league match as they made sure that their title dream was kept alive.
City’s 13-game unbeaten run in the league means they sit in second with 74 points from 35 games. Currently sat five short of Arsenal with a game in hand, City have to win this one while a big victory is also needed to help them improve on a goal difference that is two worse off than Arsenal’s goal difference.
While Palace have managed to avoid defeat in five of their last 10 against City, the two are coming to the end of the season with very different objectives. For Palace, the focus will be on winning the Conference League, while City are desperate to win the league.
With Pep Guardiola’s side knowing this is a vital match, I am backing City to storm to the win with over 2.5 goals scored.
Crystal Palace Form
Crystal Palace have struggled for league wins of late, with the side winless since beating Newcastle 2-1 back in mid-April.
Since then, Palace have drawn at home with West Ham and Everton whilst losing to Liverpool and Bournemouth on the road. While a spot in the Europa League next season rests on their Conference League final this month, Palace will know that they have not been good enough in the league this season.
As the reverse of this fixture ended in a 3-0 hammering at the hands of City back in December, I am backing over 2.5 goals in this one as Palace’s domestic season trundles towards a disappointing end.
Verdict
I am backing City to take three vital points in a match that sees over 2.5 goals as they swell their goal difference.
