Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 1st T20 Preview & Tips

Afghanistan were easily beaten by Sri Lanka in their last game as their six wicket loss saw them knocked out of the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh came within 11 runs of the Asia Cup final, with their loss to Pakistan seeing them slip to a second consecutive defeat.

In their last 10 meetings, Bangladesh have managed to secure five wins with Afghanistan winning the other five.

Afghanistan were sent packing from the 2025 Asia Cup at the preliminary stage after a hugely disappointing campaign.

Their 94 run win over Hong Kong heralded something of a false dawn at the tournament, with two defeats following. Their eight run loss to Bangladesh was quickly followed by a six wicket defeat to Sri Lanka, with this enough to see both victorious sides through at the expense for Afghanistan.

Despite being arguably the most improved side in the men's game, Afghanistan were nowhere near good enough in their Asia Cup campaign as they were eliminated early on. While I do not predict a big margin of victory in this one, I do not foresee Afghanistan going 1-0 up in a tight loss.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh were very strong at the Asia Cup, grinding their way out of their group to take their place in the Super Four stage. While they missed out on the final, they can be proud of their run as they accounted for the likes of Hong Kong, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka across their campaign.

Ultimately, the gap between Bangladesh and both India and Pakistan is still large enough that they were denied a shot at the trophy. While the gap between Bangladesh and the best is smaller than it has ever been, it is still large enough that a major trophy is still out of reach.

This T20 series should provide ample opportunity for two very well matched sides to trade blows. With their recent run in taken into account, I am backing Bangladesh to win this one as Taskin Ahmed spearheads their bowling attack in style.

I am backing Taskin Ahmed to build on his 3/28 with the ball against Pakistan as he guides Bangladesh to a 1-0 lead.
