England vs India Women T20 Preview & Tips
England Women were eased out of the way by Australia in their last match as they slumped to a five-wicket loss at the hands of an opponent they will likely have to beat if they are to win the World Cup this summer.
India Women edged to a 26-run win over the West Indies in their last outing as they put an end to a two-game losing run in the T20 format.
- England have won three of their last four T20's against India (L1)
Head To Head
England have won five of their last 10 T20's against India, with the latter winning the other five. Importantly, England have won three of the last four meetings between the sides.
England Women Form
England Women have won six of their last 10 in the T20 game, with victories over strong teams such as India and New Zealand showing they are able to beat some of the world's best. However, their last outing against Australia once again put into perspective where they sit in comparison to the best.
Against the Aussies, England battled to 157/6 as their top three were all back in the pavilion before the score had passed the 20-run mark. While Alice Capsey (45) and Freya Kemp (41) looked good with the bat, they were not able to lead England to a truly competitive score. In reply, Australia cruised to their target of 158 with five wickets and 10 deliveries to spare.
While a warm up match and a World Cup game will be two different things, England have now won just one of their last 10 T20's against Australia. Their clash with India becomes even more important then, with the tournament hosts aiming to prove to themselves that they are one of the teams to beat.
Positively, England have looked good against India in the shortest format, and I predict they will use the conditions to their advantage as they secure yet another win over India in the T20 game.
India Women Form
India Women needed a positive result against the West Indies in their last outing as they looked to end a two-game losing run that had started against England.
In their clash with the Windies, India posted a competitive score of 179/8, with four of their top five making it to 29 runs or more. With the ball, India could not take all 10 wickets, but this was a good test in defending a score without bowling the opposition out.
Now, India turn their attention to a side they have lost three of their last four T20's against. They are also looking to better a record that has seen them win just four of their last 10 in the shortest format. While matches between the pair have tended to be competitive, their last two meetings alluded to England having a team better suited to the conditions, and this will likely play a major role in deciding this match.
Verdict
I am backing England to bounce back from their loss to Australia with a win over India in their final World Cup warm up match.
