Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Women 1st T20 Preview & Tips

Sri Lanka Women return to the Twenty20 game for the first time since a positive Women’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Pakistan Women were in awful form across their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign as a sole win over the Netherlands came alongside four defeats.

Sri Lanka have won their last two in the T20 format

Pakistan have won six of their last 10 T20’s against Sri Lanka with the latter winning the other four meetings.

Sri Lanka Women Form

Sri Lanka Women have been very impressive in the shortest format, with the nation winning 10 of their last 12 in the Twenty20 game.

They arrive for this one on the back of wins over Ireland (by nine wickets) and Scotland (by three wickets). Across their T20 World Cup campaign, Sri Lanka only lost twice, with defeats coming to the top two sides in their group in the form of England and the West Indies.

While Sri Lanka were left to rue what might have been at the World Cup, they can be very proud of their exploits across the tournament as they finished above New Zealand, Scotland and Ireland. While England and the Windies are still a step above Sri Lanka, the latter will know they are good enough to beat Pakistan.

Victory in their opening T20 would make it three consecutive triumphs in the shortest format, and I predict that Sri Lanka will underline their presence in the T20 game with another win.

Pakistan Women Form

Pakistan Women were awful at the T20 World Cup as they were spared bottom of Group A via their win over the Netherlands in their final match.

Away from their win over the Netherlands, Pakistan had lost to India (by 64 runs), South Africa (by two wickets), Bangladesh (by 23 runs) and Australia (by 113 runs). This string of defeats saw Pakistan given a show in how far short of the best they are, and I predict they will also slump to a defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka.

Their hosts have been in excellent form in the shortest format and will benefit from playing in home conditions. While the T20 game can change in a moment, I back the travelling side to miss out in the biggest moments.

I am backing Sri Lanka to storm into a 1-0 T20 series lead over Pakistan as they hand the touring side another defeat.
