Jaffna Kings vs Galle Gallants Preview & Tips
Jaffna Kings were able to put their feet up and watch the Eliminator after securing their place in the final following a 14-run win over Galle Gallants in the Qualifier.
Galle Gallants had to do things the hard way as they edged past Colombo Kaps in the Eliminator in a six-wicket win.
- Jaffna have won their last four completed matches
Head To Head
Jaffna have won five of their last 10 against Galle, with the latter winning the other five. Importantly, Jaffna beat Galle by 14 runs mere days ago.
Jaffna Kings Form
Jaffna Kings ended the regular season with five wins, two draws and one no result, with the 11 points they picked up enough to send them into the knockout stages at the top of the ladder.
In the Qualifier, the Kings smashed their way to a stunning score of 242/2 before they restricted their opponents to 228/8. While a 14-run win hardly sounds comfortable, their score was so massive that it always looked like they would roar to the win.
Victory in the Qualifier not only meant that they have taken the psychological advantage over their opponents, but it also means they have not played a game since Wednesday, whereas Galle played on Friday. It is important not to underestimate the value of a few extra days away from the middle.
While this clash will likely be incredibly tight as two well-matched sides come together, I back Jaffna to end a brilliant season with the trophy.
Galle Gallants Form
Despite finishing a single point behind Jaffna in the regular season, Galle Gallants have had to go about things the hard way after their 14-run loss to the league leaders in the Qualifier.
Heading into the Eliminator, Galle needed to steady themselves after conceding 242 runs in their last game. Positively, they bowled their opponents out for 176 before storming to 177/4 in 18.4 overs. While Eliminators are never comfortable, Galle looked assured in their win as they took their place in the final
The major worry for Galle will be playing the day before the final. Their staring XI will be fatigued heading into the final, while a team putting in a big performance in the last match before the showpiece game can often see them struggle to emulate this performance.
While I back Galle to have their moments in the final, I am backing against them securing the trophy as they finish in second.
Verdict
I am backing Jaffna Kings to secure the silverware as they come through on a stunning season with the trophy.
