Kandy Royals vs Dambulla Sixers Preview & Tips

Kandy Royals' last T20 game back in 2024 saw them beaten by one-run in the second Qualifier against eventual champions Jaffna Kings.

Dambulla Sixers finished at the foot of the Lanka Premier League standings in 2024 as they secured three wins from eight outings.

Kandy Royals are looking to build on an impressive post-season run in 2024, although they will have to be better in the regular season after only squeezing through due to Dambulla's poor form.

In 2024, KR finished in fourth with six points, ahead of bottom side DS via their superior run rate. Despite heading into the finals as the lowest ranked side, KR eased to a two-wicket win over Colombo before losing to eventual champions Jaffna by a single run. While they were denied a shot at the trophy, they took the current champions all the way.

This season, starting well is crucial. The LPL regular season does not provide many matches for teams. While four of the five will go through to the finals, heading into the off-season with victories and a shot in the first Qualifier is crucial.

However, their struggles in 2024 will be something that I believe will hinder them at the start of the new season. DS have not been great, but I predict that big names like Dinesh Chandimal and Sahibzada Farhan will likely prove the difference for DS.

Dambulla Sixers Form

Dambulla Sixers had to stomach the ignominy of being the only one of the five LPL sides to miss out on the finals back in 2024.

They matched KR's three wins and five defeats, but their -0.269 run rate saw them finish at the foot of the table. Despite their woes, DS arrive with three wins across their last five T20's in a fairly good run. If they can channel this sort of form into the new season, they will likely go well.

As mentioned, captain Dinesh Chandimal and gun-batter Sahibzada Farhan will be key. I back the pair to star in the opening match of the 2026 season for the side as they lead DS to the points.
