Tottenham vs Newcastle
Tottenham will return to their own stadium for the first competitive match since their appalling 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Last season, Spurs finished in 17th, just two points clear of West Ham in 18th. Their inability to consistently win at home or on the road was a big issue. Roberto De Zerbi will likely look to remedy the former as he looks to ensure the feel-good factor returns. Their woeful start will be a huge worry for the side on their return to their own stadium. They were fully deserving of the 3-0 hammering they endured at the hands of Brentford in their opener, with Tottenham toothless up front and clueless at the back. With Spurs in desperate need of a performance, I predict they will have to settle for a draw as they try to ensure one defeat does not become two.
Newcastle were outstanding in their opening fixture of the new season, but a late penalty meant they had to settle for a point against Liverpool in a 2-2 draw at St James' Park. Their intensity both on and off the ball gave the Reds all kinds of issues as, roared on by their home fans, they took a point in their opening fixture. Despite failing to win, this performance was a real shining light for a Newcastle side that have lost key players and most would have expected little from this year. Two points from their opening two matches would be a decent return considering their opponents, and I back the Magpies to secure a battling draw.
Aston Villa vs Arsenal
Aston Villa were awful in their opening Premier League game of the new season as they were blown away by Brighton. While they did rally to draw the second-half 0-0, heading in at half-time 4-0 down saw one of last season's top teams completely pulled apart. Now, they face their toughest home game of the season against the reigning champions. Recent matches have seen goals scored, with the last three resulting in three or more goals. After conceding four on the opening weekend without scoring, I expect more goals as Villa lose in the league for a second time in as many games.
Arsenal were outstanding in the opening game of the new season as they raised the curtain on their title defence with a 3-0 win over Coventry. Despite facing a potential banana-skin, Arsenal were outstanding as they controlled the game. Whereas Manchester United slumped to a stunning 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Hull and Sunderland were beaten by Ipswich, the Gunners were in no mood to drop points as they completely outplayed Coventry. I predict over 2.5 goals in this one as Arsenal make it consecutive wins over Villa and a second win in two outings this season as they underline their title challenge.
Verdict
I am backing Tottenham and Newcastle to share the points as Arsenal make it consecutive wins in the Premier League.
