Trent Rockets vs Manchester Super Giants Preview & Tips
Trent Rockets arrive for the final of The Hundred on the back of a six-wicket loss to the Southern Brave in their final group game.
Manchester Super Giants were in exceptional form in the Eliminator as they easily beat Sunrisers Leeds by 20 runs.
- The Rockets have won six of their last seven (L1)
Head To Head
The pair have met seven times before, with the Rockets winning six times and the Super Giants winning once.
Trent Rockets Form
The Trent Rockets deservedly finished at the summit of the ladder in The Hundred after winning six of their eight matches, with a pair of defeats bookending their season.
Despite arriving for this one on the back of a defeat, the Rockets will not think too much on this loss. The Southern Brave arrived for their clash with nothing to lose, and this showed, as they secured only their third win of the season.
While there was a nervy wait for the Rockets as the Sunrisers attempted to win their match and move to the summit, the Rockets were able to finish at the top without having to lift a finger.
The extra time away from the middle will more than likely make a difference in this one. The Super Giants played on August 14, while the Rockets last played on August 10. Six wins in seven previous meetings also shows the Rockets have continually been too strong for the Super Giants, and I back this to be the case in the final as the Rockets lift the trophy.
Manchester Super Giants Form
Manchester Super Giants were superb in their last match as they found a way to make it consecutive wins over the Sunrisers across the space of three days.
Their 20-run win was built on Paul Walter's stunning 80 from 46 before Josh Tongue was in inspired form with the ball, taking 4/11 in his 20 deliveries. With 186 on the board, the Super Giants were superb as they caused the runs to dry up whilst taking wickets.
Now, attention switches back to taking on a side they have really struggled against across their history. Seven previous meetings have resulted in six defeats, while they have lost their last three against their opponents.
If the likes of Jos Buttler, Walter and Tim Seifert are able to get moving with the bat, then the Super Giants have every chance of winning this match. However, I predict that the extra rest for the Rockets will tell as the Super Giants are consigned to second place in the competition.
Verdict
I am backing the Trent Rockets to lift the trophy as they end Manchester Super Giants' four-game winning run.
