The PSL rolls on with another high-intensity encounter on Tuesday between the Multan Sultans and Islamabad United. Both teams started their respective campaigns with a win in their openers.
Islamabad set the tournament alight by chasing 196 in the campaign opener against Lahore Qalandars. Lahore made a fine start by scoring 195 but Shadab Khan had a sensational game, first delivering frugal figures of 1 for 24 in his four overs before smashing 74 off just 41 balls.
Agha Salman have him spirited company, with a 31-ball 64 that included 10 boundaries. In the end, Islamabad chased down 196 with 10 balls to spare.
Multan Sultans put on a dominant performance as well, led by Reeza Hendricks’ 79 that helped his team put up 185 for 2 while batting first.
In defence of that score, Multan were clinical, restricting Karachi Kings to 130 for 8. Mohammad Ali led the charge with sensational figures of 3 for 23 in his four overs. He was also given fine company by left-arm swing bowler David Willey, who finished with 2 for 22 from his quota.
Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans Tips & Prediction
Islamabad have stuck with their core right through the years in the PSL, led by Colin Munro and Alex Hales at the top of the order.
Azam Khan, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf add plenty of firepower in the middle of the innings, while Agha Salman and Haider Ali add some international experience.
Their bowling has improved considerably with the signing of Imad Wasim to add to Naseem Shah and Tymal Mills. They have two fantastic spinners to control the middle and death-bowling specialists, which could be crucial in the high-scoring pitches of Pakistan.
On the other end, Multan have always been a steady, reliable team, led by their captain Mohammad Rizwan. They have now added some international talent in Dawid Malan and Reeza Hendricks to the mix while Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah will have the job of finishing an innings.
Player for player, Islamabad United just seem to have a lot more depth in all facets of the game. Their matchups are far more favourable than Multan despite some strength in that home batting lineup.
Islamabad prefer to start their innings with pure aggression while Multan always opt for steady starts, which may not work against this quality bowling lineup, particularly with the addition of Imad Wasim, who could even open the bowling against Rizwan.
There is a lot to like about this Multan team but this may not be the game where they excel, and so we’d back Islamabad to win.
