Namibia vs South Africa 2nd ODI Preview & Tips

Namibia were no match for the tourists in the first ODI as they slumped to a 99-run loss even after seeing their target of 349 reduced to 262 in 31 overs.

South Africa were at their brutal best with bat and ball in the first ODI as they posted a score of 348/6 before keeping Namibia to below a run per ball in their chase.

  • Namibia have lost their last four across formats

Head To Head

South Africa beat Namibia by 99 runs in their only previous ODI meeting.

Namibia Form

Namibia would have felt they were right in the game after restricting Pakistan to 27/1 after 6.4 overs. However, they failed to build on the momentum they had created as South Africa ran away with proceedings.

A total of six wickets did fall across South Africa's innings, but the majority of these came after South Africa were already building a big score. The focus will be on removing Jordan Hermann early after his stunning 150 from 126 saw him almost outscore the entire Namibia team.

With the bat, Namibia were poor. A high score of 34 from Malan Kruger came with a strike rate of just 56.67. While keeping wickets in hand is crucial heading into the latter-stages of the innings, Namibia were too conservative. When cashing 262 in 31 overs they needed to play with some pace, which is something they failed to do.

South Africa Form

South Africa hit the ground running in the opening T20 as they stormed to a statement 99-run win over their hosts.

Jordan Hermann took the headlines with his 150 from 126 which featured 17 boundaries and three maximums. By the time Hermann fell, South Africa had scored 275 from 41.5 overs. Even at this stage, the chase at hand for Namibia felt too much, and so it proved as the Proteas backed up an excellent batting display with a miserly bowling one.

While they were completely dominant in the first ODI, South Africa know they cannot afford to be complacent. Namibia have the players to build a solid score and take wickets, and while they are unlikely to smash their way past 300 runs consistently, if they are given a chance, they have the tools to take it.

Tony de Zorzi looked good for his 72 in the first ODI, and I predict that he will build on this score with more runs in the second ODI.

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to cruise into a 2-0 series lead over Namibia as Tony de Zorzi continues to score runs for the tourists.
