New Zealand vs Pakistan 4th T20I Preview
Pakistan came roaring back into the series with a stunning batting performance that saw them chase down a massive score of 204. It was the fastest chase of a 200-plus score in T20I history, beating South Africa’s chase of 208 against West Indies in 17.4 overs in the inaugural T20 World Cup.
Such was the force that Hasan Nawaz produced that Pakistan completed the chase with 4 overs to spare. He finished with a stunning 105 off just 45 balls, which included 10 fours and 7 sixes. Salman Agha scored 51 off 31 balls with six fours and two sixes.
"In our minds, it is just attack," Nawaz said. "The way other teams are playing cricket, that is the kind of cricket we want to play. Sure, we'll fail at the start, but in our minds we are sure we want to play fearless cricket. Pacers get a little extra bounce here, and we're used to low-bounce wickets at home. I've never played in conditions like this.”
New Zealand Form
New Zealand needn’t despair as this is part of playing T20 cricket on short boundaries on good batting pitches. While we haven’t seen too much of that in New Zealand this summer, there is still plenty to like about their performance, including Mark Chapman’s 94 off just 44 balls.
Michael Bracewell chipped in with 31 off 18 balls while Tim Seifert scored a quick 19 off 9 balls. With the ball, Jacob Duffy was the only bowler to pick up a wicket but went for 37 from his three overs.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand have no reason to panic after one poor bowling performance. Unless there are injury concerns, they should play the same team.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan found some form with the bat, which will hold them in good stead. As was evident with England, though, Pakistan need to find a balance with their aggression or else it could get quite nasty in international cricket.
The positive bit of news is they have the players that can help them find that balance, which will be key for the rest of this series.
Pakistan Team News
Pakistan should play the same team for the next match.
Verdict
Pakistan played an exceptional match in Auckland. Conditions in New Zealand can be perilous with their pace and extra bounce. That will be key as the series moves on. While Pakistan can challenge the hosts, New Zealand may bounce back with aplomb in the fourth match.
