Bangladesh vs Malaysia Preview & Tips

Bangladesh are hoping to build on a solid 2-1 win over San Marino in their last outing back in June as they take to the pitch for their opening 2026 ASEAN Cup match.

Malaysia slumped to a frustrating pair of 2-0 defeats at the hands of Vietnam in their last two as their patchy form continued.

Bangladesh have never beaten Malaysia, with the latter winning three times and two games ending as draws.

Bangladesh will hope to stun a number of strong opponents across their ASEAN Cup campaign, with the nation hoping to take one of the two top spots on offer.

With Malaysia to come first, Bangladesh will also take on Singapore and Indonesia across this international break. Having never beaten Singapore (P4, L4) and returned an even history against Indonesia (W1, D1, L1), Bangladesh will know they can really enhance their hopes of a top spot with a win in their opener.

A 2-1 win over San Marino in their last outing should give Bangladesh some hope, but prior to this they had lost to Vietnam (3-0) and Singapore (1-0). Issues both going forward and at the back will likely hurt Bangladesh in this one, and I back them to lose to nil for the third time across their last four.

Malaysia Form

Malaysia are in need of a return to winning ways after a pair of defeats to Vietnam in their last two. Their 4-0 aggregate loss was built on 2-0 defeats home and away, with Malaysia outplayed.

Prior to this, Malaysia had won eight of their previous 10. Wins over Laos (4-0) and the Philippines (1-0) saw the nation win with clean sheets as they were able to pair defensive solidity with an ability to breach the opposition.

While Bangladesh will be raring to get up and running with a win against an opponent that has lost their last two, I do not predict that Malaysia will slump to a defeat. Instead, I back Malaysia to secure an important victory as they start their ASEAN Cup campaign with a win to nil.
