Sunderland vs Arsenal
Sunderland have been enjoying a fairly good start to the new season after picking up four points from their opening three matches. A 2-1 loss to newly promoted Ipswich in their opener was a frustrating result, but they have since beaten Fulham 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Brentford. Considering two of their three matches have been on the road, four points is not a bad return. Last season, Sunderland were outstanding against Arsenal when hosting the Gunners as they took a point in a 2-2 draw. While Sunderland arrive on the back of a two-game unbeaten run, I do not back them to end Arsenal's three-game winning run in the league.
Arsenal have been excellent at the start of the new season, winning their opening three Premier League matches and beating Napoli 1-0 in the Champions League in midweek. Three clean sheets in four is an impressive return, while they have won both of their competitive away games this season 1-0. I predict that they will put their impressive backline on display once again in another victory that sees them get the win by a single goal.
Manchester United vs Manchester City
Manchester United will have been frustrated with their start to the season after picking up one of each result after three games. Their 2-0 loss to Hull in their opening match was an embarrassing result before they rallied to beat Ipswich 5-2. They then missed the chance take all three points from Everton as they were held in a 2-2 draw. With seven goals scored and six conceded in three matches, United have generally been involved in entertaining matches. This will likely play into the hands of Erling Haaland, who will be raring to go against his leaky opponents.
Manchester City are looking to make it four consecutive wins in the league after beating Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Coventry. While they have not been perfect in any of their matches so far, they have at least matched Arsenal at the summit without hitting top gear. Despite enduring a frustrating start to the season in which Erling Haaland failed to score in the Community Shield against Arsenal and against Bournemouth in the league, the forward has hit back quickly. Braces against Crystal Palace and Porto have come alongside the winner against Coventry. Haaland has now scored the opener in each of City's last three, and I back him to score again for his side.
Verdict
I am backing Arsenal to edge past Sunderland by a single goal as Erling Haaland hits the back of the net against Manchester United.
