South Korea vs Czechia
South Korea need to start well in a tough group that includes Czechia, Mexico and South Africa. Ahead of the tournament, South Korea put an end to a worrying two-game losing run with wins over Trinidad & Tobago (5-0) and El Salvador (1-0). While the quality of the two sides was not particularly high, winning is a habit South Korea will hope they can get into as they chase a third successive win across competitions.
Czechia have been excellent of late, winning their last six matches in a run that has ensured they arrive for the World Cup in fine form. With the exception of their win over Denmark on penalties, the quality of vanquished opposition has not been particularly high. Despite this, they will likely give South Korea a real battle, and I see this game ending with both goalkeepers having to pick the ball out of their own net.
Canada vs Bosnia
Canada have not had to stomach a negative result since their 1-0 loss to Australia back in October 2025, with the nation avoiding defeat across their last eight games. In this time, they have drawn five matches, while they have beaten Venezuela, Guatemala and Uzbekistan. Each of these wins have been to nil, while Canada have kept clean sheets in six of their last eight matches.
Bosnia arrive for their opening match of the World Cup on a similarly strong run, with their 2-1 loss to Austria back in September 2025 followed by eight without a defeat. In this time, Bosnia have won four times, with the other four ending in draws. Worrying for the nation will be that they have drawn their two World Cup warm ups, failing to score against North Macedonia before being held by Panama in a 1-1 draw. With goals and wins tough to come by, I predict Bosnia will struggle in their opener as they lose to the co-hosts.
USA vs Paraguay
The United States of America are the final of the three co-hosts to begin their campaign as they take on Paraguay on Saturday. Against Paraguay, the USA boast four wins in their six previous meetings and wins in their last three battles. A major worry for the USA will be the three defeats they have stomached across their last four. It is worth noting they have lost to Belgium (5-2), Portugal (2-0) and Germany (2-1), with the quality of opponent very high. Despite their poor run, I back the USA to get their campaign up and running with a win.
Paraguay have struggled for consistency of late, with their last seven matches resulting in three wins. Along with these wins, they have lost to South Korea, the USA and Morocco, while they were held by Japan in a 2-2 draw back in October 2025. While Paraguay will be desperate to hand the USA a defeat in their big World Cup match, I do not see them taking points from their hosts.
Verdict
I am backing Canada to hand Bosnia a defeat as the USA match the result of their co-hosts with a win over Paraguay. In South Korea’s match against Czechia I predict both sides will hit the back of the net.
