Colombo Kaps vs Galle Gallants Preview & Tips
Colombo Kaps edged to a thrilling four-wicket win over Dambulla Sixers in their last outing as they bounced back from a frustrating 19-run loss to Jaffna Kings in their previous game.
Galle Gallants were beaten by Kandy in a pulsating game that saw the pair combine for 422 runs.
- Galle have won three of their last four against their opponents (L1)
Head To Head
Galle have won four of their last 10 T20's against Colombo, with the Kaps winning the other six meetings.
Colombo Kaps Form
Colombo Kaps held their nerve against Dambulla Sixers in their last outing as the edged to a four-wicket win as they eclipsed Dambulla's score of 174 with one over to spare.
When chasing, Dambulla's top order looked good, with their top four each scoring 26 runs or more. While a cluster of wickets fell to see the Kaps go from 149/2 to 157/6, they dragged themselves over the line in a thrilling chase.
While Colombo's win means they sit on eight points, they cannot rest on their laurels. Indeed, Galle are ahead of the Kaps on net run rate while Jaffna are level on points with the Kaps and Kandy sit two points below them. Winning matches as the tournament edges towards the post-season is crucial, but I do not see the Kaps getting their second win in five against the Kaps as they lose for the second time in their last three.
Galle Gallants Form
Galle Gallants were beaten by Kandy in one of the games of the tournament so far, although this was more for the quality of batting rather than how tight the game itself was.
Batting first, Galle put on 208/3 as Sam Harper (72 from 38) and Charith Asalanka (70 not out from 32) impressed with the bat. However, Galle struggled with the ball as they could only take four wickets on a batter-friendly surface. Failing to dismiss Lahiru Udara (132 not out) proved the difference as he powered his team to the win.
While Galle looked good with the bat, their bowlers let them down as Kandy cruised to a six-wicket win with seven deliveries to spare. Five of the seven bowlers used went for 11.00 or above, with only Sachindu Colombage able to make a positive impact as he returned brilliant figures of 3/18 from four overs.
If Galle can keep going in excess of 200 runs scored then they will be in most games. If the Gallants can match their batting power with genuine wicket-taking threat, then they should have no problem winning this one.
Verdict
I am backing Galle to secure a crucial win as they continue to do all they can to top the standings.
