Argentina vs Egypt

Argentina managed to stave off arguably the greatest upset in World Cup history in the last round, with their 3-2 win over Cape Verde ensuring they kept their hopes of defending their World Cup crown alive. Their four matches have all ended in victory, although the margin of victory has been getting progressively smaller, with Argentina going from beating Algeria 3-0 in their first match to needing extra time to beat Cape Verde. Lionel Messi continues to impress in front of goal, scoring seven times across the tournament and in each of their four outings.

Egypt eliminated Australia on penalties in the Round of 32 as their game ended 1-1 after extra time. Across the tournament, Egypt are yet to taste defeat at the World Cup in 2026, with three draws and a 3-1 win over New Zealand seeing them edging closer to an unlikely appearance in the final. Of course, it is worth noting that Egypt have not been beating teams outright, but they have been tough to beat. However, Lionel Messi has proved the right key for each door so far, netting in all four of his games, and I back him to continue his impressive scoring run as Egypt concede for the fifth consecutive game.

Switzerland vs Colombia

Switzerland were able to secure a battling 2-0 win over Algeria in the last round as they made it three successive wins at the tournament. Their 1-1 draw with Qatar in their opener was a disappointing result, but the Swiss have since beaten Bosnia (4-1), Canada (2-1) and Algeria (2-0). Switzerland have looked solid in each performance even if they do not look like blowing the opposition away with their goals. Their clash with Colombia is their first real test against a top side, and I back goals in this one. Switzerland have seen both sides score in three of their four matches so far, and I back this one to see more goals.

Colombia edged to a tight win over Ghana in their last game as they notched a 1-0 triumph in the Round of 32. This came on the back of wins over Uzbekistan and DR Congo, while their final group game saw Colombia draw 0-0 with Portugal. Colombia have shown that they are good at the back, but this will be only their second real test after their 0-0 draw with Portugal. Switzerland have been excellent at unlocking the opposition so far by scoring in all four of their outings. I back Colombia to find the back of the net against the Swiss as they also have to pick the ball out of their own net.

Verdict

I am backing Lionel Messi to hit the back of the net against Egypt as Switzerland and Colombia both fail to keep clean sheets in their clash.
