Ann Li has been superb at the Beijing Open after surging to a pair of 2-0 wins in the second and third rounds.

Elina Svitolina edged past Maria Sakkari in the third round in Beijing on the back of a 6-4 7-5 triumph.

The pair have met once before, with Svitolina hammering Li 6-0 6-4 back in 2021.

Ann Li bounced back well from her disappointing third round exit at the US Open with a 6-4 6-2 win over Ashlyn Krueger in the second round in Beijing.

This was then followed by an equally impressive 6-4 6-3 triumph against Belinda Bencic. In her clash with Bencic, Li broke her opponent early in the match before repeating the trick to secure the first set 6-4. She then broke in the second set to go 3-1 up and did not look back as she surged to a deserved win.

Her fourth round outing is the chance to better a defeat that she has had five years to stew on. Svitolina hammered Li 6-0 6-4 in the second round of the French Open back in 2021 as Li barely challenged. While Li has improved vastly since then, I believe she is still some way behind her opponent, and I predict that this will show in their latest meeting.

Elina Svitolina was not able to showcase her undoubted talent at the US Open in 2026 as she was eliminated in the third round of the final Slam of the season.

The wait for a Slam goes on for Svitolina although, at 32-years-old, she is quickly running out of time to secure one of the biggest trophies in tennis. Away from Slams, Svitolina boasts triumphs in Auckland and Rome in 2026, and she will fancy her chances in Beijing this year.

Her last outing saw her only need to break Sakkari twice on her way to a 6-4 7-5 triumph. Li will give Svitolina issues, but I do not see her opponent bringing enough to the court to stop Svitolina from advancing into the next round.
