England vs India 5th T20 Preview & Tips
England secured another big win over India in their last T20 meeting as they roared to a nine-wicket win over their floundering opponents.
India have had no answer for England across their series, with the touring side now battling to ensure they are not beaten to nil.
- Phil Salt has scored 129 runs across his last two T20's innings for England
- India have lost their last five in the shortest format
Head To Head
England have won four of their last 10 against India in the T20 game, with the latter winning the other six.
England Form
England have been in scintillating form across their T20 series against India, easily winning the second, third and fourth T20's to storm into an unassailable 3-0 lead.
As if their 125-run win over the tourists in the third T20 was not enough, England then crushed India by nine wickets in their fourth meeting. India struggled to 158/7 when batting first as Shreyas Iyer's 80 not out kept their hopes of a win alive. While Jos Buttler did fall for eight, Phil Salt (59 not out from 42) and Harry Brook (79 not out from 35) powered the home team to a win that once against humiliated the travelling side.
While England have been patchy in the Test and ODI formats, they have been excelling in the shortest format. Their last 10 have ended in eight wins, while they have 17 wins in their last 20 in the T20 game. While India always pose a threat, I back England to build on their momentum as Salt continues to torment India with the bat.
India Form
India have gone from winning the T20 World Cup trophy to losing five consecutive matches across June and July.
Their 2-0 series loss to Ireland was an embarrassment, with the world champions losing by 34 runs in the first T20 before slumping to a one-run loss in the second meeting. While losing to England is not an embarrassment in of itself, the manner in which they have been losing is humiliating.
Their four-wicket loss saw them edged out by the better side in the second T20, but their 125-run loss in game three was quickly followed by a nine-wicket hammering in their last game. Four of their six bowlers went at 10.00 over more, while only Iyer (80 not out) could put up a real fight with the bat. This India side is superb when everything comes together, but right now they are hurtling towards a 4-0 series defeat.
Anything can happen in the game of cricket and the fact England have wrapped up the series win may also have an impact on how they play. However, with a chance to humiliate the world champions in a 4-0 win, I back England to impart more pain on their opponents.
Verdict
I am backing Phil Salt to continue to score runs as England secure a 4-0 series win over their opponents.
