India vs Netherlands Women T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
India Women were incredibly classy in their opening World Cup match as they humiliated arch-rivals Pakistan in a 64-run win.
The Netherlands were eased out of the way by Bangladesh in their World Cup opener as they slumped to a six-wicket loss.
- India have won two of their last three T20's (L1)
- The Netherlands have lost eight of their last nine games in the shortest format (W1)
Head to Head
This will be the first time the pair have ever met in a competitive Twenty20 match.
India Women Form
India Women put any worries of slipping to a stunning loss at the hands of fierce rivals Pakistan in their World Cup opener to rest as they stormed to a statement 64-run win.
While the difference between India and Pakistan is vast, a World Cup game is often a place where the difference between sides shrinks with the pressure piled onto the shoulders of the favourites. However, India showed no signs of complacency as they compiled a competitive score of 170/6 before skittling Pakistan for 106.
Smriti Mandhana led the charge with 68 from 44 before Deepti Sharma took all of the headlines with a stunning spell that saw her return figures of 5/10. Ultimately, the difference between India and Pakistan was so vast that the former barely broke a sweat.
Now, the focus will be on building on one big win over an unfancied opponent by doing the same against the Netherlands. Bigger matches against South Africa and Australia await, making this a game they simply have to win.
Mandhana will likely be one of the stars of this World Cup, and I back her to fill her boots with runs once again.
Netherlands Women Form
The Netherlands went into their World Cup opener against Bangladesh hoping for a statement win, but all they got was a resounding defeat at the hands of a side they would have felt they could beat.
Batting first, their score of 139/8 always felt at least 15 runs short of a fairly competitive total, and so it proved. Bangladesh cantered to the points with six wickets and five deliveries to spare, with the side in great touch with bat and ball.
This defeat was a fifth consecutive loss for the Netherlands in the shortest format, while it constitutes an eighth defeat in their last nine. While the World Cup usually throws up a few shock results, the disparity between the pair is so big that I see nothing other than a win for India.
Verdict
I am backing Mandhana to continue to showcase her incredible ability with the bat as India make it two wins from two.
