Lahore Qalandars vs Hyderabad Kingsmen Preview & Tips

Lahore Qalandars arrive for the first match of the new season hoping to start as they mean to go on, with the reigning champions aiming for back-to-back titles.

Hyderabad Kingsmen arrive for their first ever PSL match with a huge task ahead of them as they face 2025’s champions.

This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive match.

Lahore Qalandars Form

Lahore Qalandars had to battle through both Eliminators last season after finishing fourth in the group. Despite only winning five of their 10 group games, they were not to be denied as they got their hands on the trophy for the third time.

In their three post-season matches, the Qalandars downed the Karachi Kings by six wickets before hammering Islamabad United by 95 runs in a big win. In the final, the Qalandars needed 119 of their 120 deliveries to chase down their target of 202 in a stunning clash that saw 405 runs scored.

This season, the pressure will be on the Qalandars to hit the ground running in game one. The Kingsmen are playing their first ever match and so will be something of an unknown quantity. While a lack of pressure will help the travelling side, the Qalandars are the side to back here.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will hope to lead his side with the ball in hand and build on ending last season as the top wicket-taker after knocking over 19 opponents. I back him to once again utilise his express pace as he stars in game one.

Hyderabad Kingsmen Form

The Hyderabad Kingsmen arrive for their first PSL outing hoping to spring a major surprise as they announce themselves by beating last season’s champions.

Marnus Labuschagne will captain the side as he looks to star in a team that boasts some big names. Glenn Maxwell and Riley Meredith provide some of the overseas firepower, with the former likely to need to provide some quick run scoring in a side that is not quite as explosive as their competitors.

While the Kingsmen have the players to challenge this season, I predict that they will struggle to match the quality and intensity of the reigning champions. If a player like Maxwell falls early, then I back the Kingsmen to slip to an underwhelming score.

I am backing Shaheen Shah Afridi to do some serious damage with the ball as he leads the Qalandars to victory in their opening match.
