The gap between the top three teams in the English Premier League is increasing as we head into Matchday 26 of the 2024-25 season. Liverpool have the record-equalling 20th league crown in sight and are sitting at the summit, eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

Nottingham Forest suffered a setback at Craven Cottage against Fulham last week and are now six points behind the Gunners and just three clear of Manchester City, who are slowly bouncing back after a string of disappointing results.

The title race may end early this season but the race for the last two UEFA Champions League spots will be mercurial—only ten points separate third-placed Nottingham Forest and tenth-placed Brighton.

Revitalised Toffees Host The Jaded Devils

The script that the top half of the table recites is entertaining. On the other hand, the bottom half has a story of its own, where Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are the two surprising names. The latter will lock horns with a re-energised Everton side at Goodison Park this Saturday.

Plagued by injuries, the troubles for Ruben Amorim seem endless. Amad Diallo, who became a pivotal part of the first team with six goals and six assists in 22 league games, has been ruled out for the rest of the season. In the midfield, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Toby Collyer have also suffered knocks that could keep them out for a couple of weeks.

The biggest concern for Manchester United comes in the final third. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are unable to find the back of the net consistently.

Only four teams have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils this season and three of them are in the relegation zone, while the other one is on the road to recovery and ready to face them this weekend.

After the prodigal return of David Moyes, Everton have bounced back with four wins in six league games. It is a commendable turnaround for the Toffees, who had registered just three wins in the league before Moyes’ return. As things stand, Everton are a point clear of Manchester United and the momentum is with them.

The same cannot be said for the visitors, who have lost two of their last three games. Everton want to sign off from Goodison Park in style at the end of this season. They have already denied arch-rivals Liverpool a win in their backyard and the same could be in store for United.

West Ham Look Too Weak To Hammer Arsenal’s Title Pursuit

As Everton held Liverpool to a draw in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park last week, Arsenal capitalised on the advantage with a comfortable win over Leicester City and cut the gap to the leaders down to seven points. The Reds dropped a couple of points again earlier this week at Villa Park and their next match is at the Etihad this weekend.

The Gunners have a brilliant opportunity to close the gap to the leaders down. The Premier League crown is the only domestic title they can aim for after eliminations from the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

Mikel Arteta’s men will come into this game on the back of a 15-game unbeaten streak in the league. On the other hand, West Ham are struggling in 16th place and have won only two out of their last ten league games.

The hosts will be without attackers Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz, putting the goalscoring burden on Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and Ethan Nwaneri.

As things stand, West Ham are ten points clear of the relegation zone but that will not ease the pressure off Graham Potter. The Englishman has been dealt another blow as Lucas Paqueta has been ruled out for up to four weeks. It will be a challenge for the East Londoners to get past the defensive duo of Gabriel and William Saliba.

When West Ham visited the Emirates last season, they walked away with all three points. After that, the two teams met twice at the London Stadium and on both occasions, the hosts were walloped. Unfortunately for the visitors, a similar outcome could be waiting for this weekend.

Top Four Chase Could Take Villainous Turn For Blues

While one side of Claret and Blue travels to London this weekend, the other will host a team from the capital at Villa Park. Aston Villa are five points off the final Champions League qualification spot while Chelsea are only a point away. Both teams are finding it hard to win games in recent weeks.

In the last five league games, the Blues have won two, lost two, and drawn one. Meanwhile, the Villains have not won any of their last five league matches after drawing four and losing one. Unai Emery’s men are desperate to replicate their Champions League form in the Premier League.

Expectations from the new acquisitions – Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford – will be high. On paper, the team looks strong and on the pitch, they just held the high-flying league leaders to a draw.

Villa have lost only one out of 14 league games at home so far this season. However, they have only won six, meaning a whopping seven matches have ended in stalemates.

Chelsea are yet to win a league game on the road this year. Their last away win in the Premier League came against Spurs in the first week of December. Since then, the Blues have lost three and drawn two of their five away league matches. One of those losses came last week when Brighton blanked the Blues 3-0.

Aston Villa will be hoping for their new loanees to rediscover their lost form and gel well with the roster. Chelsea will be without Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson. The primary threat for the Villa backline will be Cole Palmer, and that is what Tyrone Mings and Axel Disasi will train for.

Dispirited Defending Champions Meet Title Favourites In Manchester

Manchester City had dropped out of the top four after a string of unfortunate results. However, they are trying to claw their way back in and their target would be to leapfrog Nottingham Forest and finish the season in third place. Liverpool, on the other hand, want to put one hand on the title as soon as possible. However, even they have fluffed their lines in recent matches.

The Reds have dropped our points in the last three league games. If they fail to beat City this weekend and Arsenal beat West Ham, the Gunners will cut the deficit to the summit down to five points with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have three teams behind them waiting to pounce on fourth place if there are any slip-ups.

While Arne Slot aims to win the Premier League title in his debut season with Liverpool, Pep Guardiola will be hoping for some respite after his side’s elimination from the Champions League earlier this week. It will be anything but a cakewalk for the Cityzens as their next opponents are yet to lose a league game away from home this season.

The hosts will be without the services of John Stones and Manuel Akanji, while Cody Gakpo will be the only significant absentee for the visitors.

Mohamed Salah will be the one man to watch out for as he will be aiming to extend his goals and assists tally. The Egyptian has scored 24 goals and registered 15 assists in 26 league appearances this season.

Both sides will be coming into this game in a frustrated mood. City will be fuming after losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League again, while Liverpool will be disappointed with the recent draws. At the end of the 90 minutes, either City will slip down the table or Liverpool will lose their unbeaten away record in the league this season.

Verdict

West Ham have been in terrible form with just one point from their last four matches. In that same period, Arsenal have picked up 10 points. Just based on form alone, you would expect Arsenal to be simply too strong at home for the Hammers. Back Arsenal to come away with three points.
