Real Betis vs Real Madrid
Real Betis had started the season in good form, with a pair of 1-0 wins ensuring they were rubbing shoulders with the best sides in the league. Their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in their opener was followed by a battling 1-0 win on the road over Valencia. Heading into their clash with Levante, they would have been incredibly confident, especially when considering their opponents were yet to win after two matches, failing to score in either game whilst conceding three goals. This made Betis' 5-2 loss even more stunning as they went from the side with the best defensive record to conceding five in one game. With Real Madrid in town, the five goals they shipped last week will be a worry. While I back more solidity in defence this time around, I predict that this will hurt them going forward as they put too much of the onus on keeping Madrid out.
Real Madrid have been superb, with the start to the new season under Jose Mourinho perfect after three games. Wins over Espanyol (2-1), Real Sociedad (4-1) and Malaga (4-0) shows their incisive attack is currently being matched with a much-improved defensive unit, as is the Mourinho way. Kylian Mbappe seems to be enjoying life with Mourinho as his manager, netting four goals in two games including a hat-trick against Real Sociedad. I back the forward to breach Betis' defence this week as he underlines his claim to being the best finisher in the game.
Valencia vs Barcelona
Valencia have not started the new season well, failing to win any of their opening three matches. A 0-0 draw with Celta Vigo was a disappointing way to start their campaign, and they have since slumped further, losing 1-0 at home to Real Betis and 3-1 to Deportivo La Coruna on the road. While the campaign has plenty of time for improvement, Valencia have hardly shown that they can beat the opposition. Indeed, a single goal scored across their last three along with one clean sheet is hugely disappointing, and I back the home side to struggle to breach an opponent that has been perfect so far.
Barcelona have been excellent at the start of the new La Liga season. Real Madrid have won their opening three, with Barcelona matching this tally. To go one step further than their fierce rivals, Barca have scored 12 goals to Real's 10, with this ensuring they top the table on goal difference. While there is plenty of time for this to change, Barca will be desperate to ensure that they continue the momentum from their excellent start. Valencia may have beaten Barca 3-1 in this fixture back in May but, prior to this, Barcelona had won their previous five meetings, and I back them to make it three wins to nil over Valencia in their last four matches.
Verdict
I am backing Kylian Mbappe to add to his four league goals this season as Barcelona beat Valencia without conceding.
