La Liga Best Bets - September 16 & 17

Elche have been enduring a torrid start to the new La Liga season with their opening five matches failing to result in a single win. Their 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna on the opening day was a solid result, but it has since been followed by defeats to Barcelona (5-0), Racing Santander (3-2) and Real Sociedad (3-2). While they did draw 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao in their last game, they have now seen 19 goals scored across their opening five, with 13 of these goals hitting the back of their own net. 

Barcelona continued their perfect start to the new season with a 4-2 win over Levante at the weekend. This win has continued their impressive scoring form, with Barca netting at least four goals in four of their five league games. While Real Madrid are right behind Barca, the latter have been outstanding at the start of the new season and will not be focussing on the exploits of those behind them. Instead, they will look to plug a defence that conceded twice at the weekend. Impressive is their three clean sheets in five league games, with two of these coming on the road.
