Brazil vs Egypt
Brazil are looking to continue preparations for the 2026 World Cup as they take on a strong Egypt side this week. Prior to this game, Brazil had stormed to a 6-2 win over Panama in a clash that saw them hit the front early on. While they were pegged back at 1-1, once Casemiro scored in the 39th minute, they did not look back as they scored four goals in the second-half to round off a 6-2 win. Before this, Brazil had beaten Croatia 3-1 back in April, with the nation heading into this one on the back of two successive wins.
Egypt are in good form heading into this one, with the nation arriving on the back of a three-game unbeaten run. Wins to nil over Saudi Arabia and Russia sandwiched a 0-0 draw with European champions Spain, with Egypt's defensive quality particularly impressive. Clearly, Egypt have been a tough nut to crack, and this will likely be their big selling point at the World Cup.
The pair have only met twice before, with Brazil beating their opponents 4-3 in 2009 and 2-0 in 2011. The pair have not met for some time, with the gap between the two smaller now than it was back in 2011. While Egypt will more than likely give Brazil a good game, I predict they will see their three-game unbeaten run brought to an end.
Argentina vs Honduras
Argentina return to the international game hoping to build some real momentum when heading into the defence of their World Cup title. Placed in Group J along with Algeria, Austria and Jordan, Argentina will feel that they should take top spot in the group fairly easily. Perhaps this game against Honduras is the perfect chance for Argentina to practice trying to break down an opponent that will likely try to stay disciplined without the ball. At the World Cup, their three opponents in their group will look to soak up pressure, meaning the reigning world champions will see a lot of the ball in front of blocks of defending players that will not be easy to breakdown. Having hammered Zambia 5-0 in their last match back in April, I back Argentina to start their World Cup preparations with a big win.
Honduras face a real test heading into a summer in which they will not appear at the World Cup. Their last three have seen them go without a win, losing 2-0 to Nicaragua before drawing with Costa Rica and Peru. Their 0-0 draw with Costa Rica was a solid result, but their winless run has seen them struggle for goals. With this in mind, I back their three previous defeats to Argentina to become four as they lose again.
Verdict
I am backing Brazil to beat Egypt without a clean sheet as Argentina secure a win to nil over Honduras.
