Alexander Zverev vs Juncheng Shang Preview & Tips
Alexander Zverev made short work of Cameron Norrie in the last round in Beijing as he eased to a 7-6 6-4 victory.
Juncheng Shang eventually eliminated Sebastian Baez in the first round as he secured a 5-7 6-3 7-5 victory.
- Zverev has won 57 times this season (L14)
Head To Head
This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive tennis match.
Alexander Zverev Form
Alexander Zverev is looking to build on his stunning US Open triumph earlier in the month, with this making it two Grand Slam crowns in 2026.
After securing two of the four available Slams in 2026 and finally ending his long wait for one of the biggest trophies in the sport, Zverev will have his eyes firmly set on winning the Beijing Open and underlining his claim to being the best player in the men's game.
His first round clash against Cameron Norrie saw Zverev impress particularly on serve, winning all 11 of his service games. Ultimately, he only needed one break of Norrie's serve in the second set after winning the tie-breaker in the first.
With 25 wins coming in 32 hard court matches this season, I am backing Zverev to storm to another 2-0 win.
Juncheng Shang Form
Juncheng Shang has barely played any tennis this season, with 15 matches resulting in nine defeats and just six wins.
It was similar in 2025 as he won six times and lost the other eight outings. Returning two negative records in 2025 and 2026, Shang has struggled for any kind of momentum. Indeed, when omitting his win in the first round, he has lost his last four outings, while he has been beaten in seven of his last 10.
Shang will have aspirations of securing the biggest win of his career, but I do not see this happening. Zverev is in great form right now, and I predict that he will sweep his opponent aside.
Verdict
I am backing Zverev to secure another win as he eliminates Shang in a 2-0 triumph.
