Jessica Pegula vs Iga Swiatek Preview & Tips
Jessica Pegula came through an enthralling match against Amanda Anisimova in the quarter-finals as she secured a battling 2-1 win.
Iga Swiatek was able to get off the court very quickly in the quarter-final as Elena Rybakina was forced to retire 4-1 down.
- Swiatek has only been taken to three sets in one of her four Cincinnati Open matches in 2026
Head To Head
Swiatek has won seven of the 12 previous meetings between the pair, with Pegula winning the other five.
Jessica Pegula Form
Jessica Pegula has been given increasingly harder tests at the Cincinnati Open, with arguably the toughest opponent in the women's game to come in the semi-finals.
A pair of 2-0 wins over Simona Waltert and Emma Navarro in the second and third rounds respectively led onto a battling 6-2 4-6 7-5 win over Sorana Cirstea. Pegula was then able to eliminate Amanda Anisimova, with her 6-4 2-6 7-6 win seeing her need to be at her best consistently.
Now, Pegula will have to be even better if she is to eliminate Swiatek and take her place in the final. Positively for Pegula is her four wins on hard courts against Swiatek, although she has lost five times on the surface against her opponent.
Trailing 7-5 in the head to head between the pair, Pegula has had her moments against Swiatek, but with a shot at the Cincinnati Open final on the line, I predict that Pegula will slump to a frustrating loss.
Iga Swiatek Form
Iga Swiatek has been in outstanding form across the Cincinnati Open, with only one of her four matches resulting in the clash going to three sets.
Wins over Emiliana Arango (6-3 6-0) and Diane Parry (6-3 6-3) in the second and fourth rounds respectively came alongside a more competitive 4-6 6-1 6-1 win over Maria Sakkari. Her quarter-final outing was then cut short as Swiatek stormed into a 4-1 lead before her opponent retired hurt.
While most were keen to see Swiatek really test herself against Rybakina, the former will be pleased to have gotten off the court quickly. The extra time in recovery will seriously help her in the semi-final, and I back Swiatek to use this to storm to a 2-0 win.
Verdict
I am backing Swiatek to secure a 2-0 win over Pegula as she eases into the final of the Cincinnati Open.
