Leylah Fernandez vs Maja Chwalinska Preview & Tips - Fernandez to storm into Singapore Open final

Maja Chwalinska also notched an impressive result as she eliminated Elise Mertens in a 6-2 6-2 triumph. 

This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive tennis match. 

Leylah Fernandez continues to impress at the Singapore Open, with the 24-year-old storming into the semi-finals without dropping a single set. 

Her wins over Kyoka Okamura and Alycia Parks were solid efforts, but it was her triumph against Andreeva that has caught the eye. In the first set, Fernandez was able to break her opponent three times, while she repeated the trick in the second set. Despite being broken twice herself, Fernandez held her nerve as she broke Andreeva 6-5 up to secure a 7-5 victory. 

While Fernandez has not been at her best on hard courts this season, she has managed to secure 161 wins and 104 defeats across her career. While I do not see this one being a hugely comfortable clash, I am backing Fernandez to secure the bragging rights and a place in the final. 

Maja Chwalinska is also yet to drop a set at the 2026 Singapore Open after a string of 2-0 wins has led her to within two wins of a trophy. 

Against Elise Mertens in the quarter-final, Chwalinska easily beat her opponent in a far more one-sided match than many had predicted. Two breaks late in the first set were followed by three breaks in the second, with Mertens unable to deal with her opponent as she won seven consecutive games across the first and second set. 

Her ability to keep her intensity high accounted for her opponent in the quarter-final, and I predict it will see her seriously challenge Fernandez in the semi-final. However, despite her excellent win in the last round, I am not backing her to secure the win as she is eliminated a step before the final.
