Lorenzo Musetti vs Frances Tiafoe Preview & Tips

Lorenzo Musetti saw-off a spirited challenge in the first set against Jaime Faria as he eventually secured a 7-5 6-2 win.

Frances Tiafoe was outstanding against Felix Auger-Aliassime as he stormed to a deserved 6-3 6-4 victory.

Lorenzo Musetti has been very strong at the Cincinnati Open, securing three 2-0 wins to help him edge towards the semi-finals of the tournament.

The first set against Jaime Faria in the fourth round was the closest he has come to losing a set as he secured a 7-5 6-2 win. Yet to be given a real examination at the tournament, Musetti will hope that he can continue to blow the opposition out of the water.

My major worry when it comes to Musetti is his winning ratio on hard courts. 81 wins and 62 defeats across his career is a poor return, while 19 wins and nine defeats in 2026 is also a worry. With Tiafoe very strong, I predict that Musetti will struggle in his first real test at the tournament this year.

Frances Tiafoe Form

Frances Tiafoe was in superb form in the fourth round as he eliminated Felix Auger-Aliassime in a brilliant 6-3 6-4 win that will have him confident he can be the last man standing at the tournament this year.

Prior to his fourth round win, Tiafoe was able to ease past Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-4 before battling to a 6-4 4-6 6-4 win over Learner Tien. His trio of wins in Cincinnati has swelled his record in 2026 to 35 victories in 50 matches, with 19 of these wins coming on hard courts.

While this will be a big test for Tiafoe, I predict that his exploits in the last round will serve him well. He was far too good for Auger-Aliassime and with Musetti yet to be seriously tested, I back Tiafoe to edge into the semi-finals and go 5-4 up in the head to head between the pair.

I am backing Tiafoe to eliminate Musetti in the quarter-finals as he marches into the last-four.
