Taylor Fritz vs Brandon Nakashima Preview & Tips

Taylor Fritz was too good for Christopher O'Connell in the last round as he barely broke a sweat in a 6-4 6-3 victory.

Brandon Nakashima eventually secured the win in an enthralling three-sets clash with Nuno Borges in the fourth round.

Fritz has won three of the four previous meetings between the pair on hard courts (L1)

The pair have met five times before, with Fritz winning four matches and Nakashima winning once.

Taylor Fritz is yet to drop a set at the Cincinnati Open, with the 28-year-old breezing into the quarter-finals on the back of some excellent performances.

His 6-3 6-4 win over Alex Michelsen in the second round was followed by an identical scoreline against Daniel Merida Aguilar. The score was then flipped as Fritz knocked Christopher O'Connell out in a 6-4 6-3 victory that has seen Fritz growing with each set.

Against Nakashima, Fritz has been very impressive and has only lost one of their five meetings. He also boasts 283 wins and 141 defeats on hard courts across his career, and I back him to extend his winning run as he eliminates Nakashima in a battling win.

Brandon Nakashima Form

Brandon Nakashima began the Cincinnati Open with a strong 6-2 7-5 win over Aleksandar Kovacevic getting him up and running in style.

However, he has since been provided with some real tests. While he has passed each one, he has not looked entirely comfortable. Indeed, his 6-7 7-6 6-1 win over Daniil Medvedev and his 6-3 6-7 6-3 win over Nuno Borges were both excellent results, but they showed Nakashima is far from perfect.

Against Fritz, I predict that Nakashima will struggle. He has not enjoyed facing Fritz, with five meetings ending in a single win and four defeats. The focus for Nakashima has to be on winning the first set, although I do not predict that he will do enough to secure the victory even if he wins the opener.

I am backing Fritz to secure a fifth win in six meetings with Nakashima as he moves into the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open.
