Colombo Kaps vs Kandy Royals Preview & Tips

Colombo Kaps were consigned to a 13-run defeat at the hands of Galle Gallants as their hopes of taking second in the competition were dashed.

Kandy Royals barely managed to secure fourth spot in the LPL with the side in debt to the weather as it stopped Dambulla Sixers from potentially winning their final game.

Kandy have lost to Colombo by six wickets and 23 runs this season

Colombo have won seven of their last 10 T20’s against Kandy with their opponents winning the other three.

Colombo Kaps brought a close to the regular season with four wins and four defeats coming from their eight matches. The eight points they collected saw them finish well clear of Dambulla at the bottom, although they were six below Jaffna at the summit.

Their last game saw Colombo given the chance to leapfrog Galle Gallants on the ladder with a victory. However, chasing 202 to win, Colombo stuttered on their way to 188 all out after 19.4 overs. Not only did they miss out on the chance to take their place in the first Qualifier, they were also shown just how far behind Galle they really are.

Despite their recent loss to Galle, Colombo will be confident heading into this one. Colombo have beaten Kandy in their two meetings this season, while they have won seven of their last eight T20’s against their opponents.

With Colombo looking to build on four wins in eight regular season matches, I am backing them to eliminate Kandy.

Kandy Royals Form

Kandy Royals took their place in the Lanka Premier League playoffs as Dambulla were denied a shot at Jaffna as the weather curtailed the contest.

Kandy’s last match saw them beaten by the Jaffna Kings in a 21-run loss. In that game, Kandy struggled to keep up with the required run rate as they saw their target of 222 to win always stay out of reach.

While they are in the knockout stages meaning anything could happen, Kandy have hardly lit the tournament alight. Indeed, their poor run against their opponents will likely play on their minds, and I back Kandy’s tournament to end against Colombo.
