England vs Pakistan 3rd Test Preview & Tips
England have deserved each of their two wins over Pakistan so far, with the series wrapped up with one game to come.
Pakistan have been nowhere near good enough with bat or ball as the touring side have continually been found out by their hosts.
- Ollie Robinson is the top wicket-taker in the series (16 wickets)
- Pakistan have lost six of their last seven Tests (W1)
Head To Head
England have secured wins in six of their last 10 Tests against Pakistan, with the latter winning twice and two games ending as draws.
England Form
England have started the post-Ben Stokes era with a solid set of wins over Pakistan. While they have taken on a poor side at home, England can be proud of the way they have taken each session and the conditions at face value.
The first Test ended in a 103-run win before they then increased the margin of victory to 194 runs in the second Test. After previously beating New Zealand by 115 runs in their first Test before then losing by 253 runs and 160 runs, their ability to turn one win into two will please Joe Root and the England management.
Now, the focus is on finishing the job. Pakistan have made a swathe of changes to their squad as they desperately try to find a way to get a win. However, consistency is key for England. No changes need to be made ahead of the final Test at Edgbaston, with their team composition looking good. Whether Dan Lawrence and Root are needed to bowl more overs as their main spinners will be interesting, although the potency of their pace-attack is such that they will likely stick to speed, swing and bounce.
Ollie Robinson has been a superb exponent of swing across the series, taking 16 wickets at an average of 7.18. Pakistan have had no answer for his bowling, and I back him to star again. If there is any movement to be found across the Test then Robinson will find it.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan have been nowhere near good enough in this series and they are hurtling towards a crushing 3-0 loss.
With both sides arriving on the back of poor runs and needing a win, Pakistan have not been able to take any of the chances presented to them. Their woes have been across the board, with the touring side not able to excel in any area of the pitch.
In the field, catches have gone down and fielding has been inconsistent. With the bat, wickets have been given away and promising starts have amounted to nothing. With the ball, a lack of pace or control has hurt Pakistan, with England able to build big scores or dig themselves out of a hole as Pakistan have failed to go for the kill
While the touring side have made a number of changes to their squad, I believe this will count for little. England are the better of the two sides and Pakistan’s issues run much deeper than their inability to play the English conditions.
An impending 3-0 loss in which Pakistan have barely thrown a punch will go down as another low-point for a side in desperate need of a reversal of form.
Verdict
I am backing Ollie Robinson to continue to give Pakistan nightmares when they bat as England complete a much-needed 3-0 series sweep.
