London Spirit vs MI London Preview & Tips
London Spirit were no match for Sunrisers Leeds in their last outing as they were thumped in a 37-run defeat.
MI London cruised to a 45-run win over Manchester Super Giants in their last outing as they defended a scored of 183/6.
- The Spirit are yet to win at home this season (P2, L2)
- London Spirit have lost eight of their previous 10 against their opponents (W2)
Head To Head
The pair have met 10 times before, with MI winning eight matches and the Spirit winning twice.
London Spirit Form
London Spirit may have smashed their way to 204/6 in their last outing but, in their chase of a mammoth 242 to win, they came up well short.
Mitchell Marsh (76 from 37), Ryan Rickelton (94 from 42) and Harry Brook (55 from 18) all went at well above 200.00, with Brook's innings coming at 305.56. In reply, Liam Livingstone's quickfire 34 from 13 proved little balm as Lhuan-dre Pretorious (five) and Jonny Bairstow (golden duck) fell early.
David Willey did show the top order how it was done as he slammed 83 from 46, but he was unable to arrest the Spirit slumping to a second consecutive defeat. Currently sat on four points, the Spirit are almost out of contention for a top three berth after a woeful campaign, and I predict they will slump to another defeat against their local rivals.
MI London Form
MI London looked in good touch with bat and ball in their last outing as they made light work of a potentially explosive Manchester Super Giants side.
Batting first, MI hammered their way to 183/6 as Will Jacks (62 from 31) starred with a blistering innings. He was ably supported by Nicholas Pooran (54 from 28) before Adil Rashid's five-wicket salvo saw the Super Giants bundled out for 138. This win has seen MI move onto 12 points as they battle to keep up with the top sides.
While MI have had the better of the season in comparison to the Spirit and they have dominated their opponents across their 10 previous meetings, they will know nothing can be taken for granted. I predict that MI will go after the Spirit's bowlers, with the pressure they are likely to put on the opposition ultimately telling.
Verdict
I am backing MI London to secure a crucial win as they edge closer to taking their place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
