West Indies vs Bangladesh Second T20 Preview
Bangladesh came storming back into their limited-overs tour of West Indies with a thrilling victory in the first T20I in Kingstown. Bangladesh initially managed to score 147 for 6 in the first innings on a tricky pitch that proved to be sluggish and slow for the majority of the game.
Soumya Sarkar led the scoring with 43 off 32 balls with two fours and three sixes but cameos from the middle order carried Bangladesh to a respectable score.
Jaker Ali scored 27 off 27 balls, Mahedi Hasan managed 26 off 24 balls while Shamim Hossan played a handy innings of 27 off just 13 balls.
Akeal Hosein was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 13 from his four overs. Obed McCoy also picked up two wickets but went for 30 from his four overs.
Bangladesh then had West Indies on the ropes at 61 for 7 in the chase as Mahedi Hasan’s offspin derailed the hosts. However, captain Rovman Powell produced a sparkling knock of 60 off just 35 balls to put West Indies in the front seat.
With Romario Shepherd’s 22 off 17, West Indies were cruising the chase at one point but Bangladesh’s death bowlers held their nerve to complete the win.
West Indies Form
West Indies won’t be too concerned after the opening defeat. Their batters were just unable to stave off some fine spin bowling but that could change going into the second game.
West Indies have enough resources in both departments to be able to come back into this series. Roston Chase will be a big figure with his offspin and the important batting position of No. 4.
West Indies Team News
West Indies are unlikely to make too many changes in the second game, particularly after getting their bowling combination right.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh were in desperate need for some confidence after the ODI series. They relied on their strongest suit, which is their spin bowling, to come out on top.
That will continue going into the second game as well. There are some concerns around their batting depth though, which could be exacerbated on a slow surface in Kingstown.
Bangladesh Team News
Bangladesh could field the same playing XI in the second game.
Verdict
West Indies have too much depth and firepower to let another game slide. Their batting should come good in the second game after a subpar performance in the opening match.
Nicholas Pooran, Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Powell and Andre Fletcher form a destructive batting order, which should be too much for Bangladesh in the second T20I.
