PSG vs Aston Villa Preview & Tips

PSG arrive for their first competitive match of the season looking to begin the defence of their Champions League crown by winning the Super Cup.

Aston Villa face a major battle if they are to get close to the best team in Europe last season.

The pair have met twice before, with PSG winning once and Aston Villa winning the other match.

PSG Form

PSG were the best side in Europe across the 2025/26 season as they surged to consecutive crowns in the biggest club competition in the game.

Having taken the scalps of a range of quality teams including Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, the French club were fully deserving of the crown. Now, they turn their attention to completing a third successful campaign in Europe’s biggest competition, and they will feel this starts with their UEFA Super Cup clash against Aston Villa.

Despite slumping to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mallorca in their first friendly of the summer before drawing 1-1 with Manchester United, PSG will likely arrive rejuvenated. Of course, there may be some form of a hangover from the World Cup, meaning some players may not play the full 90 or at all.

Despite this, PSG should have too much quality for an Aston Villa side that has seen a number of key players transfer away from the club in the summer.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa were outstanding in their Europa League campaign last season as they secured the trophy following a stunning 3-0 win over Freiburg in the final.

Their return to the Champions League this season will be one the fans relish, although they have a huge task ahead of them if they are to make it to the knockout stage. The departures of key players including Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans will have a huge impact on how Villa play, with the pair arguably their two most talented players.

While I do not see Villa winning this one, this will be a good test for them. PSG have proved themselves to be the gold standard in Europe, and if they are able to employ their best players, they will win this match.

Despite this, Villa will look to play the same sort of positive football that saw them secure a major trophy last season. The English side will likely score as they have done in their two previous games against their opponents, but I do not see them winning.
